The Great Inventor

Day 30

Toward the end of my workday this afternoon, we had an electric power outage. At that moment I was working on a report on my desktop computer -- so much for that report. Lights out, airconditioning out, computer out. Fortunately, my office faces large windows in the hallway. It does not take long to realize how many modern conveniences we take for granted. I even attended an after-school meeting, in partial darkness.

In 1878 inventor Thomas Edison created a system that could bring electric lighting directly into a customer's business or home. After devising a commercially practical incandescent light bulb in 1879, Edison went on to develop the first large-scale investor-owned electric company in Manhattan.

I think even Edison would be amazed at all the gadgets modern technology has developed.

Alla prossima!
