The Holiday Ends


Day 78 of My Italian Learning Journal*

Being on holiday was great. I spent time with family and had time to relax. I caught up on some reading as well. But tomorrow it's time to get back into a work routine. Fortunately, I do have an amazing job working with high school students, helping them get ready for their next step beyond high school.

 Ascolta Questo:
  • La mia routine quotidiana nei giorni lavorativi inizia con la sveglia alle 05:15 di mattina.
    My workday routine begins getting up at 5:15 a.m.
  • Sono fortunato che il mio tragitto per andare al lavoro sia molto breve.
    I am lucky that my commute to work is very short.
  • Una parte del mio tempo al lavoro è dedicata ad aiutare gli studenti a riuscire a scuola.
    Some of my time at work is devoted to helping students succeed in school.
  • Aiuto anche gli studenti a presentare le domande di ammissione alle università..
    I also help students apply to universities.
  • Il mio lavoro è estremamente gratificante.
    My work is exceptionally rewarding.

    some tips :)

    - La mia routine quotidiana nei giorni lavorativi inizia con la sveglia alle 05:15 di mattina.
    It's more fluent in Italian.
    My daily routine on working days begins with the alarm clock at 5:15 in the morning.
    Or you could say:
    - Nei giorni lavorativi inizio la mia routine quotidiana alzandomi alle 05:15 di mattina.
    On working days I start my daily routine by getting up at 5:15 in the morning.

    - Sono fortunato che il mio tragitto per andare al lavoro sia molto breve.
    In questa frase che esprime un'opinione si usa il congiuntivo. (In this phrase, that expresses an opinion, the subjunctive is used).
    Or you could say:
    - Sono fortunato perchè il tragitto (la strada) per arrivare a lavoro è breve.
    I'm lucky because the way to get to work is short.

    - Una parte del mio tempo al lavoro è dedicata ad aiutare gli studenti ad avere successo (a riuscire/a farcela) a scuola.
    l'aggettivo indefinito "Alcuni" si usa solo con i nomi al plurale:
    Alcuni studenti - qualche studente.
    Alcuni momenti - qualche momento.
    Alcune parti - qualche parte.
    (The indefinite adjective "alcuni" is used only with plural names)

    Aiuto anche gli studenti a fare domanda (per essere ammessi) alle università.
    - In this case the verb "apply to" means "send a request" In Italian: fare domanda a, fare richiesta a
    I applied to three universities but none of them accepted me.
    Ho fatto domanda a tre università, ma nessuna mi ha accettata.

    First of all, you cannot block someone's chat when you are sitting next to them. And it's not always pleasant. Short of blasting obscenities at people on the table or being physically threatening, you have to listen (or block them out). Secondly, the game goes faster than you think. 메이저놀이터
