University Representative

Day 67 of My Italian Learning Journal*

Part of my work as a counselor at my high school is to invite representatives from colleges and universities to come visit our school and speak with students about attending college. Today our visitor came from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. This university is about 150 miles from Corpus Christi, where I work and live. Here is my practice script for today.

Ascolta Questo:
  • Oggi un rappresentante di un'Università ha visitato la nostra scuola.
    Today a college representative visited our school.
  • È venuto del Texas A&M University di San Antonio.
    He came from Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
  • Il rappresentante ha parlato con gli studenti della sua università.
    The representative spoke with the students about his university.
  • Le Texas A&M University di San Antonio è un'università di recente fondazione, istituita il 23 maggio 2009.
    Texas A&M University-San Antonio is a young university, established on May 23, 2009.
  • Forse alcuni dei nostri laureati si iscriveranno al Texas A&M University di San Antonio.
    Perhaps some of our graduates will enroll at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

    Hello Ted

    College in this case is "Università" not "Collegio" (in Italian Collegio is boarding school)
    Oggi un rappresentante di un'Università...

    In this sentence don't put "circa", because in this case "about" is not translated with "circa" but with a preposition:
    Example:
    what do you tell me about her? Cosa mi racconti di lei?
    what do you tell me about the holiday? Cosa mi racconti della vacanza?

    So it's better to write in this way:
    Il rappresentante ha parlato con gli studenti della sua università.
