Day 95 of My Italian Learning Journal*
My cell phone seems to run low on power rather quickly, and I considered ordering a new battery. However, after some research, I learned that the battery replacement is rather complicated on newer cell phones. No longer can you just open the back of the cell phone and replace the battery. My particular model requires the opening of a sealed backplate. So much for that idea.
The battery situation caused me to wonder about the invention of the battery. I am not surprised that that question led me to an Italian inventor, Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the first electric battery.
- Alessandro Volta nacque il 18 febbraio 1745, a Como, Lombardia, Italia.
Alessandro Volta was born February 18, 1745, in Como, Lombardy, Italy.
- Volta inventò la prima batteria utilizzando dischi alternati di zinco e argento.
Volta invented the first battery by using alternating disks of zinc and silver.
- Nel 1801, a Parigi, Volta dette una dimostrazione della sua batteria.
In 1801, in Paris, Volta gave a demonstration of his battery.
- L’unità di "volt" è chiamata cosi in onore del fisico italiano Alessandro Volta.
The measurement "volt" is named in honor of the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta.
