Invention of the Battery

My cell phone seems to run low on power rather quickly, and I considered ordering a new battery. However, after some research, I learned that the battery replacement is rather complicated on newer cell phones. No longer can you just open the back of the cell phone and replace the battery. My particular model requires the opening of a sealed backplate. So much for that idea.

The battery situation caused me to wonder about the invention of the battery. I am not surprised that that question led me to an Italian inventor, Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the first electric battery.
