DNA Analysis

Day 92 of My Italian Learning Journal*
______________________

My wife and I had been curious about our DNA ancestry after two of our daughters had their DNA analyzed. We received our results a few days ago. From my report, I clipped the graphic above. If accurate, the blue in the circle and the matching color on the map indicates 56.4% European, and the yellow 30.3 % Native American. The Native American ancestry actually covers a huge area, from North America through South America. What about Italian? Well, just 1.4% Italian. That's OK, I'm still interested in learning the Italian language because my wife and I have visited Italy on two separate occasions and there is no question about Italy's beauty and amazing history and people.

Ascolta Questo:
  • Io e mia moglie abbiamo scoperto la nostra discendenza con un'analisi del DNA.
My wife and I have learned about our ancestry with a DNA analysis.
  • Sono l'56% europeo e l'30% nativo americano.
I am 56% European and 30% Native American.
  • I tratti dei nativi americani provengono da una vasta area geografica.
The Native American traits come from a large geographic area.
  • E la discendenza italiana? Solo l'1,4%.
What about Italian ancestry? Only 1.4%.

  1. Everything is grammatically correct, I would just advise you to use an article with the percentage. For example, I would say "Solo l'1,4%". It is not a correction, just a different use of the language. :)
Good luck with your Italian learning!

  2. Greta, thank you for the advise. The subtlety of a language can be a challenge to grasp, and as a beginner I understand I have much to learn. I welcome your suggestions. La ringrazio. ~Ted
