Canned Food

Nichcolas Appert

Day 122 of My Italian Learning Journal*
_____________________

Recently our high school conducted a canned food drive for a charity organization. Looking on the Internet for the invention of the process for preserving food, I found that Nicholas Appert accepted a challenge that was proposed in 1795 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon wanted a safe way to provide food for his constantly traveling army. Fifteen years later Appert developed a method for bottling food with a heat-process. Appert did not receive the 12,000 francs from Napolian, but the French  Ministry of the Interior did give Appert the 12,000 francs with the condition that the process was made public. Next is the practice Italian script -- corrections are welcome.

Ascolta Questo:
  • La scuola dove lavoro ho raccolto cibo in scatola per beneficenza.
The school where I work collected canned food for a charity.
  • I nostri studenti hanno donato circa 400 lattine di cibo.
Our students donated about 400 cans of food.
  • Chi ha sviluppato il primo metodo moderno di conservazione del cibo?
Who developed the first modern method of preserving food?
  • L'inventore del metodo di "imbottigliamento" cibo era Nicholas Appert.
The inventor of the method for "bottling" food was Nicholas Appert.
Alla prossima!
