Day 146 of My Italian Learning Journal*
_____________________
Today I was reflecting upon the prevalence of the personal computer, the PC. It was almost forty years ago that I purchased a Texas Instruments TI-99 personal computer, with a Basic Operating System. I even added a voice synthesizer later. I happened to be in a department store during a Christmas season, and there were a lot of people in the center of the store, and I was curious what all the fuss was about. The PC was on sale, so I picked up one of the last, not really knowing exactly what I was about to buy, or what I was going to do with the gadget -- it was a new gadget, and I love gadgets. Shortly after, I bought a Basic OS book and on my own learned how to program what now seems a primitive computer. The program I wrote soon exceeded the memory the TI-99 had. My son and I played a Star Wars game, a game that now looks like it was light-years ago. I have kept up with technology because I am a life-long learner. (Now for some practice with a script in Italian -- grammar corrections are welcome.)
