Hummingbirds Visit South Texas

Day 241 of My Italian Learning Journal*
_____________________

This afternoon my wife and I sat on a bench in front of our house and saw two hummingbirds briskly flying by. It's about this time of the year that these amazing tiny flyers visit our area. I refilled our hummingbird feeder, trimmed a branch on the tree, and we watched from our garage doorway. The hummingbirds flew by, but the afternoon breeze was a bit strong for them to hover over the feeder. We'll watch for these little visitors again tomorrow. I have read that the North American hummingbirds beat their wings at an average of 53 beats per second in normal flight. (Any corrections for my practice Italian script below are welcome.)

Ascolta Questo:
  • I colibrì sono creature davvero incredibili.

  • I colibrì nordamericani battono le ali in media 53 battiti al secondo in volo normale.

  • Ci sono oltre 330 specie conosciute di colibrì che si trovano solo nelle Americhe.
There are over 330 known species of hummingbirds found only in the Americas.
  • Spero che il mio alimentatore colibrì attiri alcuni di questi meravigliosi volantini.
I hope my hummingbird feeder attracts some of these flying marvels.

Alla prossima!
