Membrillo: From the Fruit Quince

Day 237 of My Italian Learning Journal*

One of the gifts my daughter gave me for my birthday is a container of Homemade Membrillo from Spain. She remembers that I am fond of this treat. The paste is made from the fruit quince. The product is not easily found in our area. Even as a boy I remember keeping a block of membrillo in our refrigerator, and only eating a slide at one time, to make it last. (Any grammar corrections to my practice script in Italian below are welcome.)

• Mi piace la pasta di membrillo e la mangio come una caramella.
  I like membrillo paste, and eat it like candy.

• Per il mio compleanno, mia figlia mi ha dato un contenitore di membrillo.
  For my birthday, my daughter gave me a container of membrillo.

• La pasta gelatina è fatta con la mela cotogna.
  The jellied paste is made with the fruit quince.

• Il regalo di membrillo è stato fatto in Spagna.
  The gift of membrillo was made in Spain.
